Brandi Emma is a Los Angeles based singer-songwriter who gained considerable critical buzz with the record Swim under the moniker Emma Burgess, the title song of which Rolling Stone magazine named Best Independent Song of 2007. Prior to that, her 2005 collaboration with The Stellar Project landed her on the #1 position for 8 straight weeks on the US. Billboard dance charts with the song Get Up Stand Up. The song reached #1 in France and Italy, and peaked at #14 on the UK Singles chart.
After collaborating with The Smart Set in 2009 (Mixing With The Smart Set), she self-released Photographic Memory, a jangly folk- rock EP that returned to her roots. She’s most recently collaborated with Charlie Clark on his debut EP, Feel Something, on AED Records in the UK. 2013 saw the release of Xtraordinary Things, under the moniker The Fox Must Pay, exploring epic electronic dreamscapes. Her latest project, Broken Arrow, is set to release their first record in 2014.
This is what's going on and what has already happened. The future has yet to unfold.
Brandi Emma & Charlie Clark
Charlie Clark, an incredible singer and songwriter who I’ve been making music with. In 2013, Charlie debuted his EP called Feel Something on AED Records in the UK and I’m singing all over it. We started writing tunes for a new project in 2014. More on that in a bit...
Photographic Memory - Brandi Emma
Produced, recorded, mixed & engineered by Tom Livemore. Mastered by Thomas Schoebel Photograhic Memory is a stripped down (musically) just enough to spin that label around on its hyphen: folk-pop. Clocking in under 15 minutes, Photographic Memory is a brief listen, but the standout tracks are well worth your time.
While that tone may be indebted to the confessional singer-songwriters of her California home, the music itself is dreamier, and entirely modern. Though sparse, the accompaniment is consistently interesting: three piano key tickles here, a brief, light harmonica texture there.
Swim (Brandi Emma) Emma Burgess
Love Yourself Records saw her performing and, impressed by what he heard, approached the young musician about signing with him. She agreed, and deciding to perform using the name Emma Burgess, released her full-length debut, Swim, in 2007.
